Rising Sun Farms is located in Paonia Co. at 16540 Grange Rd. The Farm has 35.45 useable acres with over 2500′ of frontage on the North Fork of the Gunnison River. Presently 17 acres are in Apples, 9 acres in Hops and 1.5 in Organic Vegetables. Buildings consist of 2 Houses, 1 shop, 1 6500 sq/ft refrigerated warehouse, packing facility and 1 2000-sq/ft barn. To stay in-step with large scale hop producers we have developed a unique Hop Picker and Hop Dryer for a small-to-medium size farm. This year we will be offering these processing services to nearby farms.
The Hop Yards Presently consist of around 12000 plants. Last years Plantings are 4′ apart with 7′ between rows. 36 rows of 80 and 18 rows of 70. All supported by a 18′ trellis system. Our 2009 Hop Planting will almost triple our existing acreage. Last year we had 4160 plants in the ground. This year part of the School competition will be to guess the exact amount hills and to compute the acreage
